A very short history
The RED OAK VICTORY was built at the Permanente Metals Corporation, Richmond, California, and commissioned 5 December 1944. She was decommissioned 21 May 1946 and was struck from the Navy list 19 July 1946. From 1946 to 1969 she was in and out of temporary storage and being leased to civilian steamship companies. In 1970 she was deactivated for permanent storage and placed at the Suisun Bay Ready Reserve Fleet, Suisun Bay, California, along the Sacramento River near Martinez, California. In 1998 she was transferred to the Richmond Museum of History as a museum ship. For more information click on the above link. And while you are there please donate to her upkeep.
